A district and sessions court has directed the Investigating Officer (IO) in a case related to the release of "obscene" video clips of the late politician and TV personality Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain to furnish complete record of the case at the next hearing. The District and Sessions Judge East issued the orders while hearing a bail application of Daniya Shah, widow of the late televangelist, who was arrested by the Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) earlier this month on the complaint of Dua Aamir, daughter of Dr. Hussain. She was arrested from Lodhran district of Punjab on charges of recording "obscene" video clips of Dr. Hussain and then posting them on social media. Appearing before the court, Liaquat Gabol Advocate, the counsel for Daniya, stated that the allegations leveled against his clients were baseless as the FIA had no incriminating evidence against her. Therefore, he argued, his client should be granted bail. The court issued a notice to IO Arifa Saeed for December 26 ordering her to appear with complete record of the case. The court rejected Daniya's bail on December 23, keeping her in judicial remand. On December 17, the Judicial Magistrate East had sent Daniya to jail on judicial remand while rejecting an FIA plea for her physical remand. Separately, an accountability court has adjourned till December 29 the hearing on the bail application of Agha Siraj Durrani, Speaker Sindh Assembly, in the case of assets beyond means. The defence lawyer informed the court that Durrani was taken into custody on February 20, 2019. Subsequently, the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted him bail on December 13, 2019. The NAB prosecutor stated that Durrani has been under house arrest as his residence has been declared as a sub-jail. The defence lawyer argued before the court that the NAB reference against Durrani should have been returned after the recent amendments to the accountability law. The court directed the Jail Superintendent to furnish details on how long the accused had been imprisoned. Published in The Express Tribune, December 25th, 2022.
